We have developed a method for measuring the thickness of thin liquid films down to a few nanometres. By combining several analysis strategies adapted to different thickness regimes and an open-source tool, this approach provides accurate and reproducible monitoring of thin films thinning.
All of these approaches are implemented in an open-source Python library, optifik, which automates analysis and guarantees the reproducibility of measurements. Applied to foam films, this method makes it possible to monitor their thinning in real time down to a few nanometres. It is more broadly applicable to any thin, non-opaque film and is a valuable tool for the dynamic study of interfaces.
