Victor Balédent has been nominated Junior Member, fundamental chair, of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF, promotion 2025) in recognition of both his past work and his future research projects on quantum materials, which exhibit remarkable properties such as magnetism and superconductivity. To elucidate how these phenomena coexist or interact, he employs state-of-the-art experimental techniques, including elastic and inelastic neutron and X-ray scattering. By subjecting these materials to extreme conditions—very low temperatures, high pressures, and strong magnetic or electric fields—he probes the organization of atoms, charges, and spins, with the aim of gaining deeper insight into the collective behavior of electrons at the quantum scale. Congratulations to him!
