However, the singular orbital magnetism of undoped graphene, a fundamental signature of the characteristic Berry phase of graphene\u2019s electronic wave functions, has been challenging to measure in a single flake. Using a highly sensitive giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor, we have measured the gate voltage\u2013dependent magnetization of a single graphene monolayer encapsulated between boron nitride<br>crystals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"383\" src=\"https:\/\/equipes.lps.u-psud.fr\/meso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2021\/12\/mag.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3494\" srcset=\"https:\/\/equipes.lps.u-psud.fr\/meso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2021\/12\/mag.png 470w, https:\/\/equipes.lps.u-psud.fr\/meso\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2021\/12\/mag-300x244.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Figure : schematic picture of graphene sample placed on top of two GMR sensors.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The signal exhibits a diamagnetic peak at the Dirac point whose magnetic field and temperature dependences agree with long-standing theoretical predictions. Our measurements offer a means to monitor Berry phase singularities and explore correlated states generated by the combined effects of Coulomb interactions, strain, or moir\u00e9 potentials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The work has been published in <a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1126\/science.abf9396\">Science<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.science.org\/stoken\/author-tokens\/ST-217\/full\">direct link<\/a>).
